Where fashion meets art: introducing Disney’s Mickey Mouse x Keith Haring
What happens when some of the biggest icons of culture, art and fashion get together for a kidswear collection? Playful fashion, eye-catching prints and pop fun.
H&M’s latest kidswear collection brings Keith Haring’s Disney’s Mickey Mouse -inspired drawings to a new generation. Disney’s Mickey Mouse x Keith Haring collection features Haring’s drawings as collages and all-over prints on clothes, shoes and accessories for babies and kids up to 14.
“Keith Haring’s interpretation of Mickey Mouse is quite playful and we wanted to reflect that in the vibrant prints. It is a modern homage to both the artist and the animated character, as well as fashion and art, and I am really proud of what we have created combining these two icons” says Sofia Löfstedt, Head of Kidswear Design and Creative at H&M.
A baseball jacket and bicycle shorts sit alongside denim jackets, dresses, shorts and skirts, plus hoodies, sweatshirts and t-shirts. Oversized fits and boxy silhouettes create a streetwear vibe. The collection is inspired by Haring’s long-time passion for Mickey Mouse and uses a familiar palette of red, white and black, with the addition of a light denim blue.
When Haring was a young boy, he was encouraged by his father, an amateur cartoonist himself, to draw. Haring loved Mickey Mouse in particular, and even dreamed of being a cartoonist like his idol Walt Disney. He moved to New York in 1978 and quickly became part of the art scene, with his drawings of Mickey Mouse appearing on subway walls, streets and clubs.
Liz Shortreed, SVP, global Disney, Pixar and Softlines Category shares, “Our latest collection with H&M is fun and lively, inviting younger generations to connect with some of Disney’s most beloved characters in stylish new ways. Like Keith Haring and H&M, we celebrate creativity and artistic expression, working close with global fashion partners to reimagine our stories for new audiences.”
Disney’s Mickey Mouse x Keith Haring kidswear collection launches 4 July and will be available in stores worldwide and online at hm.com.
